$2,500 CHALLENGE COULD BE WIN - WIN FOR RAIL TRAIL AND FISH

Republic, WA   Ferry County Rail Trail Partners (FCRTP) announced today that they have received a $2500 pledge from an individual trail supporter who owns property in the Curlew area. The donor stipulated that $2500 is a challenge intended to be matched by other donations by Friday, August 17th

The trail group has been working diligently with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the County to fix several trail washouts that occurred this spring due to a combination of flooding and undersized culverts used when the railroad was constructed. “If our supporters can match the $2,500 challenge it will get us close to the $6,000 needed to purchase, deliver and install a versatile flat rack type bridge made from a decommissioned shipping container,” said FCRTP Vice President and project coordinator Keith Bell.

Initially the bridge will be used to span a washout at West Deer Creek, 1.5 miles north of the Curlew trailhead.  This washout currently prevents trail users from accessing the popular Kettle River and the tunnel section of the 25-mile trail. “Our trail supporters have been eager to make progress with the trail and this is the perfect opportunity for them to step up,” said FCRTP president Bobby Whittaker. Whittaker went on to say, “This section of trail is particularly sweet in the fall and if we raise the funds needed by August 17th, we hope to re-open it by September.”
